From the artist, Julie Leidel:
For me, the moon is spiritual. It's the only thing that we can look at outside of our little planet, and see clearly with the naked eye. It's a reminder of how vastly small we really are, and ultimately how small our worries are when taken in this perspective. The moon is also a way to celebrate our relationships, and to let go and find gratitude in the cycles of life.
The text "Dance by the Light of the Moon" on my artwork comes from the poem "The Owl and the Pussy Cat" by Edward Lear in 1871. This is a poem my grandmother, Mary Lou, had memorized when she was in elementary school and it held a special place in her heart for decades. I remember her reciting it to me many times as l grew, and it still brings a smile to my face. One of my favorite Christmas movies, It's a Wonderful Life starring Jimmy Stewart features the song Buffalo Gals (from 1844) with this verse as well.
