William S. Rice’s elegant yet humble block prints faithfully portray California landscapes in all seasons. In 1900 the Pennsylvania native set out west across the continent. The golden state’s forests, mountains, and coastline became the primary subjects for his photography, sketches, and paintings. Later in his studio, some of those images became the basis of his block prints.
