Galle Lamps

$95.00
Minus Plus

Emile Galle was a leading figure of the Art Nouveau movement in France and a multifarious artist. Internationally renowned for his glasswork, his lamps are now highly sought after and widely imitated collector's items. This book is a comprehensive guide to all of the light fixtures created by the Galle cristallerie, from those produced during his lifetime to those manufactured for over twenty-five years after his death in 1904. The lamps are characterised by their distinct curvilinear structures, rich colours and elaborate floral motifs. They represent the very essence of the Art Nouveau movement. Fascinatingly, many of Galle's most desirable models were introduced as late as 1925, while Art Nouveau was being usurped by the growing Art Deco movement. Written by Decorative Arts expert Alistair Duncan, and accompanied by over 500 beautiful colour illustrations this publication is an essential guide to Galle Lamps. AUTHOR: Alastair Duncan, an officer and then consultant of Christie's, New York, for fourteen years (1977-1990), is an independent consultant for 19th and 20th Century Decorative Arts. While full-time at Christie's, he organised and catalogued scores of sales devoted to Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Victorian works of art. Then and since, Mr. Duncan has travelled throughout the United States, the Far East, Europe, and South America to appraise, assemble and sell collections from the period. Mr Duncan has written many articles, exhibition catalogues and books, including several for the Antique Collectors' Club, including Louis C. Tiffany: Garden Museum Collection, Tiffany Lamps and Metalware and the Paris Salons series. 500 Illustrations
