Our inaugural Greene Box includes a signed paperback copy of Arroyo by Chip Jacobs, an "Along the Arroyo II" puzzle, designed by Yoshiko Yamamoto and a commemorative bookmark. Boxes will begin shipping in March, giving you plenty of time to read the book prior to our zoom gathering with the author, scheduled for April 17th at 11am PST. Participants will have the opportunity to submit questions for the author ahead of time and during the event.
"I really enjoyed ‘Arroyo’ by local Pasadenan Chip Jacobs. It is a creative, fictional story woven around historical data about the construction of the Colorado Street Bridge in the early 1910’s. I never realized how much controversy and intrigue circled around the building of this iconic bridge during the early growth of Pasadena. Many legends are touched upon throughout the book including the origin of the wild parrots and the sighting of ghosts present near the bridge…plus characters from the story line interact with historical figures who frequented the Pasadena area during this time (Teddy Roosevelt, Charles Lummis, Thaddeus Lowe and Upton Sinclair to name a few). It was fun to walk back in time over the fabric of our City with these fictional and historic characters intertwined together in this book." - Jennifer G., Gamble House Docent
