A talented writer, designer, and administrator, William Morris (British, 1834–1896) was one of the most influential figures of the British Victorian era. The Museum's Blackthorne tie echoes the influence of nature in Morris's wallpapers and fabrics. Characteristically, his designs were densely patterned and often based on an array of flowers, leaves, and fruits. Our William Morris tie adapts the motif from Blackthorne—a block-printed wallpaper from 1892 in the Museum's collection.
