A Centennial History
By Jane Apostol
Only five cities in Los Angeles County are older than South Pasadena, and few are smaller. Despite its size, and the looming presence of metropolitan neighbors, South Pasadena retains much of the small-town-atmosphere and sense of community its residents enjoyed a century ago. This book tells the story of South Pasadena from mission trails to freeways, from the first abode to the new civic center. It also traces the history of the city's public schools, the library, and the churches; and it describes the many cultural heritage landmarks. Each chapter is followed by a chronology of important events.
South Pasadena" A Centennial History is a valuable reference work, well organized and engagingly written. Specially drawn maps and 175 historic photographs illustrate the text.
