The early morning sun shines through the front door of the Gamble House, illuminating the colors of the leaded art glass and spilling through the entrance hall. Designed by Charles Greene and executed by Emil Lange of the Sturdy-Lange Company of Los Angeles, the stylized image of a Japanese black pine extends through the door and sidelights, recalling the multiple panels of a Japanese painted screen.
The Gamble House, located in Pasadena, California, was designed in 1908 by architects Greene & Greene as the winter home of David and Mary Gamble of Cincinnati, Ohio. Learn more about this National Historic Landmark at gamblehouse.org.
