Inspired by Byzantine mosaics, the tiffany studios used iridescent favrile glass tesserae embedded in curved plaster to create highly decorative columns. In 1893, this style of column was used by tiffany to create the Columbian booth at the world's exposition in Chicago. These tiffany mosaics are the inspiration for these earrings.
