CHINA 1908 features a hundred photos taken in China in May 1908 and a journal of the trip. In 1908, David B. Gamble and wife Mary Huggins Gamble (who commissioned building of The Gamble House, a national historic site in Pasadena, California) were in China for two weeks with their two younger sons, Sidney David Gamble, who became the famous sinologist and whose over five thousand Asia photographs are archived at Duke University; and Clarence James Gamble, who founded Pathfinder International, a non-profit offering maternal health care for women. The photos, many in color, with accompanying notes and an in-depth Introduction offer a glimpse into life in China in 1908.
