Beautifully lined with bamboo strips, this vase is made of Suruga Bamboo Basketry, a traditional craft of Shizuoka Prefecture, with an image of Mt. Fuji. The gradation of colors is also reminiscent of Mt. Fuji, whose color becomes whiter with snow as it reaches the top of the mountain.
Suruga Bamboo Basketry is a traditional bamboo craft with a history of over 400 years, made in the area around Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It was designated a national traditional craft in 1976.
The attached mat is a product of the traditional local technique of SurugaĀ wazomeĀ (Japanese dyeing). The pattern on each piece is unique, and no two are alike. We hope you can feel the warmth of the cloth and the soft lines of the handwork. Please wash by hand gently, as the color of hand-dyed textiles may fade slightly with washing.
It is designed to make to enjoy the wonderful craftsmanship casually, and its dignified lines are beautiful and complement the flowers of the season. The simple design, which can be placed anywhere, matches any interior and will be appreciated as a gift.
