An octopus stretches its curling tentacles across a field of carved waves in this striking tile. Drawing inspiration from historic Batchelder tiles and traditional woodcuts — the same graphic style introduced with last year’s popular Magpie Tile — the composition is rich with texture and movement, from the detailed suckers on each arm to the rippling water that fills every inch of the background. The octopus has long been a favorite motif in our studio, and the bold, carved style gives this enigmatic creature a new sense of drama and presence. Easel not included.
