William Morris (1834–1896) was a British textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and social activist. Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production.

The Tree of Life can be traced back to biblical times and refers to the paradise setting of the Garden of Eden. Various artists have depicted this classic design in a variety of ways. Perhaps the most famous is William Morris’s depiction. He chose to utilize the medieval technique of Mille Fleurs (thousand flowers) which createda rich and ornate pattern.

These beautiful designs have been recreated with both a rich red or deep blue background. Within the intricate artwork, you can find songbirds, flowers and other ornamental elements creating a unique design that is simply gorgeous.

A nifty tapestry satchel-style bag.
